I have served with full dedication for one concern which is freight Forwarder Air / Sea ,Import  and Export ,Steamer agents, Container Liner, Consol Agent.


I have taken Incharge of Freight forwarding in Air and sea Shipments Both import and export.

During My work I dealed with nomination agent shipments and our nominated shipments ,
free hand shipments.

Indian maritime sector  facilities not only transportation of national and international cargo but also provides a variety of other services such as cargo handling services , ship building and ship repairing, freight forwarding, light house facilities and training of marine personnel etc. The salient features of India shipping policy are the promotion of national to increase self reliance in the carriage of the country overseas trade and protection of stock holders interest in exim  trade .India national flag ships provide an essential means of transport for crude oil and petroleum product imports. National shipping  makes significant contribution to the foreign exchange earnings of the country.

Ships and watercraft
Most modern merchant ships can be placed in one of few catagaries such as
BULK CARRIERS are cargo ships used to transport bulk cargo items such as ore or food staples and similar cargo. It can be recognized by the large box –like hatches on its deck, designed to slide outboard for loading a bulk carrier could be either dry or wet.

Container ship are cargo ships that carry their entire load in truck size containers, in a technique called containerization. They form a common means of commercial intermodal freight transport. Informally known as  ‘Box boats” they carry the  Majorty of the world dry cargo .

Tankers are cargo ships for the transport of fluids ,such as crude oil, Petroliam  products, LPG, LNG, and chemicals also vegetable oils, wine and other food –the tanker sector comprise one third of the world tonnage.

Reefer Ships are cargo ships typically used to transport perishable commodities which require temperature-controlled transportation, mostly fruits, meat fish , vegetables dairy products and other food stuffs.
Roll-on Roll off are cargo ships designed to carry wheeled cargo such as automobiles , trailers or railway carrieges. RO RO vessels  have built  in ramps which allows the cargo to be efficiently rolled on and rolled off the vessel  when in port.

Coastal trading vessels  are shallow-hulled ships used for trade between locations on the same island or continent. Their shallow hulls means that they can get through reefs where sea going ships usually can not .  
Ferries are a form of transport, usally a boat or ship, but also other forms , carrying passengers and sometimes their vechicles. Ferries are also used to transport freight and even railroad cars.Most ferries operate on regular, frequent ,return services.

Cruise ships are passengers ships used for pleasure voyages, where the voyage, itself and ships amenities are considered an essential part of the experience. Cruising has become a major part of tourism industry, with millions of passengers each year.

Cable layer is a deep –sea vessel designed and used to lay underwater cables for telecommunications, electricity, and such , a large superstructure and one or more spools that feed off the transom distinguish it.  
A tugboat is a boat  used to manoeuvre, primarily by towing or pushing other  vessels in harbour, over the open sea or through rivers and canels they are also used to tow barges disabled ships, or other equipment like tow boats.

A dredger is a  ship used to excavate in shallow seas or fresh water areas with the purpose of gathering up bottom sediments and disposing of them at a different location.
A barge is a flat bottomed boat, built mainly for river and canel transport of heavy goods. Most barges are not self propelled and need to be moved by tugboats towing or tow boat pushing them .
IMPORTANT FEATURES OF THE SHIPPING INDUSTRY ;-

2.HIGHLY CAPITAL INTENSIVE
A part  from ship breaking business, other business segments in shipping mainly freight and ship building are highly capital intensive .it requires huge ivestments and in turn has high gestation periods  thus  pushing  break even time to years. This capital intensive nature of the shipping busniness acts as a barrier to entry and in way protects those already in the business. 

Market  Segmentation :-
The shipping industry can be classified into the following segments based on their business function. Though there are many companies which operates in more than one segment.

 1.Shipbuilding Industry
The Indian ship building industry currently accounts for a mere 1 percent of the global shipbuilding market/ Atpresent india has 27 shipyards of which 19 belong to the private sector.Rge current cumulative shipbuilding capacity of Indian shipyard around 0.5 million deadweight tonnage.
The major players in this market are private players such as ABG shipyard and Bharti ship yard along government controlled Hindustan shipyard and cochin shipyard . of late a lot of companies from the infrastructure segment are showing an interest in this industry like Mercator lines and Apeejay shipping
  Infrastucure  so as to acquire the majority of this market which is majority served by foreign players.

2.Shipping transport Industry /Freight Or cargo industry
At present there are 235 shipping companies in India in which the shipping corporation of India is the largest accounting for about 33 % of tonnage. India has one of the largest merchant  shipping fleets with about 997 vessels and is ranked 17th in the world. Most Indian shipping companies ply on Indian shipping routes only to meet Indian export and import demands; however a few companies like GE shipping also do business on global routes.

The Indian Ship breaking industry has a global market share of 25% along in Gujarat is one of the world largest ship breaking yards. The Andhara Pradesh authorities gace conditional approval to omega ship breaking project on Vodarevu beach .three or  four medium sized ships can be broken up at each of the 60plots at this yard The other ship braking yards are in Pipava & Mumbai

The offshore industry comprises of support serves to the exploration and production (E&P) activity of oil and gas in off shore areas. Outlook .Indian Shipping Industry Freight rate on year on year basis being higher across all segments is expected to result in higher TCY(time charter yield) earning for the industry players in the first quarters of current fiscal the performance Of the shipping companies going forwarder is all likely on their exposure top spot rates and operational efficiency.

Air  cargo Business;-
The development and management of international/domestic cargo terminals is a key function of the AAI. The role of airports has become vital to the country and is an essential and inescapable part of the growth story.

Growth in the air cargo industry has attracted domestic and foreign carriers alike to expand their cargo operations in india. Prompting the AAI  to chalk out a plan to provide enhanced cargo infrastructure at Indian air ports.

Chennai and  Kol Katta having set the benchmark for metros in cargo infrastructure development, sencing a demand for additional capacity in cargo, a number of exiting and new start-ups have now sought to cash in to the air cargo boom.

While international cargo in India has grown at 9.42 % annually. The international freight witnessed   annual average increase of over 10.96 % over last decade at the Chennai and Kol Katta airports. further it is estimated that cargo volumes could grow more-by 14% at Chennai and 8% at the Kol Katta air ports respectively. by the end of the current fiscal. Development and management of international and domestic cargo terminals has been one of the main fuctions  of the AAI as the role of airports has become vital to the country. Being an essential and inescapable part of India  growth story commercial interests of the hindter land  get a boost with the development of an airport, just as they receive setback through its saturation.
Having said that active support from the government is required for an airport to acquire and fulfill this role. Air cargo terminals are already considered the nuclei of economic activity. having assumed significant roles in promoting in the nations economy.

Cargo facilitions generally differ from passenger  facilitations. i.e cargo needs to be looked after, whether animate or inanimate, and can be classified in to two groups ,viz. Base facilitation and trade facilitation’
Base facilitation involves the physical handling of cargo while trade facilitation relates to procedures and documentation, and is responsible towards the customs and other government regulatory agencies .further Base Facilitation is the responsibility of the airline (if it  handles its own cargo) or of airports, if the latter creates centralized cargo handling facilities.

Types of cargo
Air cargo, also known as air freight. usually comprises goods that need to be transported immediately such as fresh fruits-mangoes being a specialty ,sea food ,dairy and meat products which are exported to the US.Euand the middle east. Apart from perishables important documents and goods of high value such as cut and polished diamonds, rough diamonds, colored  gem stones and gold jewellery constitute a good deal of air freight along with Pharma products. garments of high value are also airlifted However in small accounts.
